Lil Wayne

24Oct08

This man is off the hook. He took home best lyricist at the BET awards and anyone whoes surprised about that must have been living under a rock. Tha Carter III had a lil filler and some half-ass beats but the lyrics are fucking incredible. I have lyrics from Tha Carter I, II, III, Tha Block Is Hot, and all of his mixtapes stuck in my head. Songs I haven’t listened to in three years.

Plus all his free mixtapes. I’m talking ten of these things, forty songs on each, some featuring The Game and other hella legit artists. A lot of them steal beats from other songs like Throw Some D’s, Money Maker etc… Anyway, check em out.

“Costal Warefare”

“Drank Epedemic 12.3″

This next post, is, granted, a far cry from acoustical versions of gangsta rap and interviews with hot models but I thought some of our friends up in the Pacific Northwest might want to know about a nice little find.

There is a little book store, The Old Oregon Bookstore. I mean little, were talking about one medium sized room tucked away on the fourth floor of the Fine Arts building in downtown Portland. But don’t be decieved by its size. TOOBS has a ton of books on a wide range of topics, it has cookbooks, magazines etc… to go along with a great selection of regular books. With a very knowledgable store keeper and a large backroom of books your sure to find something you want.

I’m sure that sounded like an advertisement, haha. Really though in all honesty it is a nice break from the warehouse type stores like Powell’s (as much as we all love them) to have a cute little store liek TOOBS. So if your in Portland of the surrounding areas and you have a little time on your hands go check it out.

The hours are limited but Saturday afternoon is a sure bet. You may want to call ahead so if you are interested leave a comment and I can email you the phone number. For privacy reasons the store asked me not to post it here.

Esquire UK

30May08

I like the regular version of Esquire. I read it occasionally and I look at their website from time to time. It’s not really that I have complaints about the magazine but for some reason I found their English publication far superior. I don’t know what it is about the writers across the pond, but when I read Esquire UK I don’t feel like the writer is some fat, mid-forties slight pervert. I must admit, I do get that feeling from reading the American Esquire from time to time. Esquire UK is as far as I am concerned a superior publication. Unfortunately I have only seen it at airports.

I’d give you the website link, but unfortunately it is still under construction and has been for sometime. So trust me, when the day comes that esquire.co.uk is up and running, you will be the first to know.

Niki Huey, for those of you who don’t know, is the women in the Jesse McCartney “Leavin’” music video. You know the one, where Jesse McCartney looks oddly like Frankie Muniez. She was also in the “Summertime” music video for New Kids On The Block. Some other sites (and previously mine) say Niki Huey is from Singapore. Wrong, she is American born and raised and hails from Cincinnati, Ohio.

I felt pretty stupid not knowing the basic facts about her so I did some research…

She is from Cincinatti, Ohio. She’s living in Los Angeles. She played soccer her entire life and she plays other sports from time to time. She scuba-dives and has an impressive modeling resume that includes Boost Mobile, Abercrombie & Fitch, Mercedes Benz and FHM. But even this did not satisfy this blogger, so I went to straight to the source…

It’s a Guy Thing: How long have you been a model?

Niki Huey: I’ve been modeling on and off since I was about 15 I guess. I would go to LA during the summers and would do jobs here and there in Ohio.

GT: What is your favorite aspect of being a model?

NH: Traveling. Getting to go places and experience things that most people twice my age have never/will never get the opportunity to. AND CRAFT SERVICE. We get some seriously good food on sets! I always get excited for meals hahaha.

GT: What is your least favorite?

NH: Mostly just the stigma behind it. Sometimes the people. There are always truths behind stereotypes, and it just makes me mad when people perpetuate them. And in the “modeling industry” it certainly happens.

GT: If you weren’t a model what do you think you’d be doing?

NH: Writing for some travel-oriented publication. Hoping that one day I could work for National Geographic or the Explorer Channel.

GT: Many sites have said you are from Singapore, is there any truth to that?

NH: No, I was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. I lived in Singapore for 3 months and modeled in a few countries throughout Asia.

GT: You have modelled for many companies as well as actied in music videos, what has been your favorite shoot/video?

NH: I really can’t pick because they all have their really good parts! I just filmed a commercial for HP Computers with Shaun White (pro snowboarder/ skateboarder) last week that was awesome!

GT: What was your most embarrassing moment in your modelling career?

NH: I don’t really get embarrassed easily…I grew out of that a long time ago, thank goodness. Maybe just being recognized sometimes…it’s weird and I’m not used to it. And even things like this interview or people writing about me on websites…it’s funny.

GT: What was your proudest moment?

NH: I can’t say that through modeling I’ve done anything to be “proud” of. It’s just a job. Hopefully when I grow up and enter the real world I can make some sort of impact that I can be proud of.

GT: You say your into sports, did you watch the NBA Finals?

NH: I’m somewhat of a gym-rat, so I watched whenever I was running at the gym…but not all of it. I don’t watch TV at home – makes me read more, which I think is better.

GT: Who would you like to see in the White House come next January?

NH: Kathy Griffin. …I do have my pick, but I try not to talk politics

GT: Seen any good movies lately?

NH: Umm…I’m not a big movie-goer, but I am excited to see WANTED with Angelina Jolie!

GT: What are you currently reading?

NH: I Thought There’d Be Cake by Sloan Crosley, and A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson
